Live That Life¹

In the summer of 1974, my husband and I went on a one-week holiday to a small town near Rocky Mountain House in Alberta, Canada. We spent the week reading a book by Watchman Nee entitled “God's Work”.

The last paragraph in chapter one caught our attention. It said, “People think as we enter heaven's gates that in order to enter we must all have a piece of Christ in us--and that lets us in. This is a horrible misconception. For at heaven's entrance stands the cross, and on this cross you and I and every other human being were crucified. Every Jew, every Greek, every Britisher, every American, every Chinese, and so on was nailed on the cross and never got into heaven. All that gets in is Christ, nothing of us ever gains entrance. Now that is the church. Whatever in and about us that is Christ or of Christ is the church; whatever is of us in us--whatever is not Christ himself in us--is not the church and will never get into heaven but will instead be destroyed. That in us which is of the unmixed life of Christ is all that God will ever recognize or will have anything to do with. And this element alone is that which can work together with God.”

As we continued reading through the book, phrase after phrase matched what the Spirit of Jesus Christ had already been touching us about through the reading of God's Word, the Bible.

The deep sense within us was that if what we were doing was not the outflow of God's resurrection life it would not build up the Body of Christ, nor would it hasten the Lord's return.

In December 1974 we attended the first of Witness Lee's semi-annual conferences in Los Angeles, California on the book of Romans. Our spirits were refreshed and today our spirits are still constantly being refreshed by the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee. The Lord has granted us much mercy and grace to pursue Him in the local churches.
